Learning flow

The default learning flow in RedKiwi is two stages: Train → Review. If you turn on “Watch the whole video before learning” (the pre-watch step), one more stage gets added in front, for up to 3 stages total. 💪

[Optional] Watch the whole video before learning → [Required] Train → [Required] Review
(default OFF — turn on in settings) (sentence puzzles) (re-watch)

Each video is cut into short sentences, so you can take it on in bite-sized pieces.

🎬 [Optional] Watching the whole video before learning

Section titled “🎬 [Optional] Watching the whole video before learning”

A light first watch of the entire video before you start training. It’s a warm-up for your ears and a chance to soak in the context.

This stage is OFF by default. To enable it:

  1. Open the in-player settings (⚙️) or “Learning Settings”
  2. Turn on “Watch the whole video before learning”
  3. Every video you study afterwards will start with the pre-watch stage

The setting is remembered across videos.

  • 🔁 Loop the whole video toggle — a floating button on the right. When the video ends, it auto-restarts from the beginning (only available in pre-watch / review).
  • 🎚️ Playback speed 0.7x–1.0x — start slow.
  • 📺 Loop the whole video — let it play in the background like ambient listening.

The real learning step. For each sentence, you solve a sentence puzzle: a few words are missing from the sentence, and you tap the right word cards in order to fill them in.

  • Tap word cards in order to fill the blanks
  • After several wrong tries, a hint appears
  • Words you missed are highlighted in red at the end so the review points are clear
  • Tap and hold an unknown word — opens dictionary lookup + save options
  • 📖 Native’s Explanation — comments on expressions, grammar, and culture, surfaced automatically while you study (Premium)
  • 🎤 Recording — record and replay your pronunciation after finishing a sentence puzzle

You watch the entire video again, beginning to end. This is the moment to check whether the expressions you trained on now sound natural to your ears.

If you skip review, learning stays at the “puzzle-solving” level. The review stage is what turns it into actual listening ability.

If you exit a video mid-way, it gets recorded as an In Progress video. When you come back, it picks up right after the last sentence you completed.

  • 🕘 My list — videos you’ve saved but haven’t started yet
  • 🔁 In-progress videos — videos you exited partway through; auto-resume
  • Completed videos — videos you finished; you can rewatch them here

You can gauge a video’s length by its sentence count. The Length of content option in search filters has:

  • Short
  • Mid
  • Long
